The Robot Development Collective, or RoDeCO for short, is a newly established working group consisting of students from various degree programs at RWTH Aachen University and FH Aachen. We thus enable students to participate directly and without prior experience in the development of robots and their programming.

Motivation

We aim to provide students with an interest in robotics with the opportunity to gain practical experience, work on real-world problems, and learn together. Naturally, this also involves participating in competitions.

Goal

Our goal is to participate in robotics competitions in the future. Participation will take place in both long-term competitions with over a year of preparation, as well as short hackathons spanning a few weeks or just one weekend.

Approach

At present, the participating students meet once a week at the Center of Advanced Robotics of the IGMR . Here, plans are discussed, and tasks are assigned, which the participating students complete independently based on their own time management. Independent of the central RoDeCO meetings, individual subgroups also meet to work together on robotics issues and solutions.

The working group is autonomously organized by the participating students. The students are responsible for everything from task distribution and requirements determination, to planning, construction, and development, up to the commissioning and programming of the robots. The institute supports the working group with equipment, technical and scientific supervision and advice, as well as personnel, including two scientific staff members.
