Course Content

The application of multi body systems programs is a complementary teaching form of Multi Body Dynamics lectures. The program visualizes dynamic system properties and behaviours, which are presented in very abstract matrix equations in lectures, in three-dimensional graphical interfaces. It also conveys how to use learned knowledge to transfer common used calculation software to real technical systems. Therefore the laboratory exercises provide an improved and more extensive preparation for tasks in work life.

Modeling

The available model elements of the multi body systems program support the principle of modeling in Multi Body Dynamics. At the beginning of the small group exercise, the optimization of an existing model of a technical system is started immediately. Subsequently models of increasing difficulty are created and optimized. It will be teached how the physical effects of a technical system can be reproduced in a multi-body system. The working technique and procedure for model creation are taught. For example, the models are parameterized to be able to change the parameters later in the multibody systems.

Kinematic und Dynamic Analysis of Technial Systems

In addition to the model creation, the determination of the numerical values for the model parameters and the model verification is an important step in multibody simulation. Therefore, simple analysis tools for model verification are created in the last teaching units. In the preparation of the simulation, the preprocessing is a verification of the model topology is done. Subsequently, a simulation for transient processes is performed. The results are analyzed with the tools of the Postprocessing in order to develop the working technique for the simulation evaluation.

Dynamic Properties

The dynamic properties of a system are characterized by the eigenbehavior. In multi body systems programs exist corresponding tools, which e.g. calculate the calculate eigenvalues and eigenmodes of vibration. They allow statements about the vibration amplitudes and frequencies and the decay behavior of free vibrations. Stability statements are also possible. In addition to the analysis tools, an approach for the automation of multi body systems calculations will be teached.
