Within the framework of the newly introduced Master Program Product Development, the course Applied Design and Product Development I and II has been held for the first time in summer semester 2020. The course is one of only two fixed mandatory courses of the new Master Program and will have a duration of two semesters.
In a three-week block course with 3x2 SWS at the beginning of each semester, students will be taught interdisciplinary content on model-based product development and project management. These are under the direction of the Institute for Machine Elements and System Development.

Further Information
In the following ten-week exercise block with 10x2 SWS, these contents are to be applied independently by the students on a annually changing current topic from industry. This topic is specified by an industrial partner of the IGMR. In terms of content, the focus is on the design of a technical product with a task from the industry partner. This gives students the opportunity to gain experience in an industry-related project based on current topics. Along the design process, a product is developed to the prototype stage over six milestones during one year. In the first semester, the milestones include requirements identification, concept development, concept evaluation and selection, and in the second semester, the development of partial designs, an overall design and prototype construction.
