AllgemeineKonstruktion

Numerous challenges must be overcome in the development and design of motion devices and mechatronic systems. At the beginning of the development process, requirements are defined and translated into movement tasks. Systematic concept development opens up a wide field of solutions, which is reduced to the best solutions by suitable evaluation procedures. This is followed by the design and dimensioning of the system, which enables a quantitative evaluation. After design, validation is carried out using prototypes or complex simulations. The IGMR is happy to support you in these challenges and provides you with expertise in all areas of motion design, mechanism theory, machine dynamics and robotics.

Mechanism development

Mechanism synthesis

A mechanism is a mechanical device for the translation of movements. The IGMR focuses on unevenly transmitting mechanisms that can be used both to generate a certain transmission behavior and to guide gear members. The IGMR has decades of experience in the synthesis and improvement of mechanisms and uses both classical synthesis methods, as found in various VDI guidelines, and new optimization strategies. In addition to kinematic requirements, dynamic requirements can also be taken into account in the design.

(Digital) cams

Cams

Cam mechanisms are particularly suitable for generating uneven movements with short cycle times and high demands on motion accuracy. In addition to classic cam plates, servo motors with digital cam plates are also used for reasons of flexibility. The motion design methods and procedures can be used for both servomotors and cams. In the case of classic cams, additional design requirements must be taken into account and the cam bodies must then be calculated. The IGMR also has many years of experience in the design of cam plates and, on top of the classic design procedures from the VDI guidelines, also uses optimisation procedures in order to meet the highest demands on the movement equipment.

Handling technology and robotics

Robots and handling units are used in almost all industrial sectors. These terms cover most different movement devices: Classical serial 6-axis induction robots, Scara robots, parallel robots, mobile units and all special solutions with several degrees of freedom.
The competence spectrum of the IGMR includes on the one hand the development and design of new robot systems as tailored automation solutions, which can offer advantages over general industrial solutions. On the other hand, existing systems can be improved with regard to certain requirements by means of trajectory planning and optimization.

System analysis and optimization

Vibrations or tolerances can lead to product defects, damage or increased environmental pollution, especially with fast-running motion devices and processing machines. Design or control changes can often solve existing problems or increase productivity through further optimization. The IGMR supports you with the metrological or simulative analysis of your system with regard to vibrations, tolerances and kinematic behavior. Once the problem has been identified, suitable countermeasures can be identified and implemented.

Design and prototype construction

Construction test bench

Following the concept development usually the construction of a prototype follows. After production, the development can be validated and further optimizations can be made. The IGMR combines all process steps from design to mechanical manufacturing, integration of electronics, control implementation and manufacturing. The IGMR workshop specialises in the production, commissioning and support of prototypes and we will be pleased to support you in your projects. In addition to common machining and generative manufacturing processes, such as 3D printing, we have various motion devices and handling devices at the IGMR.

Tailor-made software development

MechDev

For the processing of demanding tasks in motion theory, in-depth knowledge of motion theory and good software tools are indispensable. Especially in recurring design processes, tailored tools can help to improve and accelerate the development. The IGMR therefore offers you the development of tailor-made software for your tasks in the field of motion theory. The software tool is tailored precisely to your needs and the expert knowledge of the IGMR staff is integrated. Your wishes regarding the technology will also be taken into account. We can offer you standalone software, extensions to existing software systems (including Excel add-ins), CAD-integrated tools, MATLAB code or other developments. The programs are based on analytical, parameterized or numerical models and allow the targeted and efficient investigation of a large number of influencing factors.
